The Hero's Beginning: The Origin of Izuku "Deku" Midoriya

In a world where 80% of the population possesses extraordinary abilities known as "Quirks," Izuku Midoriya started his journey from the absolute bottom. Born completely Quirkless, he faced relentless bullying from his childhood friend, Katsuki Bakugo, who coined the derogatory nickname "Deku"—a Japanese wordplay meant to mock him as someone who "can't achieve or do anything."

A Fateful Encounter

Despite the overwhelming odds and constant discouragement, Izuku never abandoned his dream of becoming a hero. His life changed forever the day he risked his own life to save Bakugo from a villain, despite having no powers of his own. This act of pure heroism caught the attention of the world's number one hero and the Symbol of Peace, All Might.

Inheriting One For All

Recognizing Izuku’s innate heroic spirit, All Might chose him as the successor to his legendary, transferable Quirk: One For All. After ten months of grueling physical training to prepare his body for the immense power, Izuku inherited the Quirk and enrolled in the prestigious U.A. High School.

Redefining "Deku"

Upon entering U.A., Izuku chose to reclaim the name meant to hold him back. Inspired by his classmate Ochaco Uraraka, who remarked that "Deku" sounded like the Japanese word for "to be able to do it" (dekiru), he officially adopted it as his professional Hero Name. What started as an insult became a symbol of defiance, perseverance, and hope.
